Before and after restoration

This website tells the ongoing story of the restoration of my 1959 LE Velocette. The photograph above is a "before" shot, taken on 1st January 2010, just a couple of days after I bought it. All I had done at this stage was pump up the tyres, making it a lot easier to move it about!

I intend to take photographs as I go and I shall try to keep the information on this website up to date. I have never tackled a restoration project before, so I am expecting some problems along the way! I don't have a workshop as such and I will have to do this in the back of the garage - shared with bicycles, bits of furniture, all sorts of junk and of course my modern motorbike. We'll see how it goes!

As well as the physical task of restoring the bike, I shall also do what I can to trace its history. Inevitably in its 38,000 miles and 50 years use, it has picked up a few "bodges", which I will try to eliminate. I will try to keep it as original as possible, though the electrical system in particular will no doubt require some modern components to perform acceptably.

LATEST NEWS! - The Velocette passed its MOT on Friday 22nd July 2011 and is now taxed and insured and legally on the road.
